“This Is not going well Gandhi! She is not even looking at me...You know what??..she didn’t even wish me today”, Aakash cried out with a downcast expression.
“What exactly happened??”, I asked him to clarify whether Aakash had misunderstood or Keerthi really hurt him.
Aakash had been trying for Keerthi ever since she had helped him in his Environmental science project, once. This fellow lacked even a minute common sense in Environmental studies, as every Indian lacks, ofcourse not blaming us, but admitting the fact, by the proof aided by garbage management, deforestration and various other factors we people unanimously follow here.
He used to search every reason possible , to talk to her . But she, being a girl, didn’t even care him , as every girl does to induce more zeal in Boys to try for them.
“Shall I go n’ ask ?”, I said trying to take charge against her.
“What ??..will you ask ??..Why didn’t you wish him??..is it that?”, Aakash broke out .
“Hmmm..yea kindof”
“Fuck! This will turn my birthday into a disaster..demanding a girl for not wishing a person who had been after her since two years”
He had a point. But, what else did he expect from a person like me, to ask??
My Spontanity sucks, being frank. The attempts or the dialogues I utter near my Mom, to cool the situation, go disastrous and shitty further degrading her mood. If that was in Mom’s case, Imagine my strength near a Classmate, being more particular, a girl.
“Aakash! there’s Keerthi, try again!”, I pushed him forward.
Making me understand the fact, that ‘my push’ was stronger than expected, He went to fall straight before her feet.
“Oh!!”, She shouted and immediately took a step back, By Aakash’s feat or probably due to the public that had already gathered to witness the Thriller episode.
“Kee..rth..ii act..act.ually..”, Aakash didn’t complete his stuttering sentence, Keerthi took an active step.
She caught by my shirt and dragged me into the next vacant Classroom. I glanced at the crowd there, their brains dozed off for a second, unable to understand the situation.
“Look! All these days, I tried not to throw up my ‘Hatred’ feeling on him. Now,What is this?..he wants to beg me by falling on my feet??”, Keerthi said, Pulling off all her frustration in a moment.
“You misunderstood completely Keerthi, He was feeling bad for you not wishing him today”
“Why should I wish him??...leave wishing, I don’t even want to talk to him”, She said feebly caring about the fact , that I was his best friend.
“Today is his birthday! He thought of giving you a treat…you’ve hurt him even today”, I said almost wih a creepy voice.
She stood there silent…silent…silent…! after few moments,
“I wanna talk to Aakash once, will he?”
“Sure! Ofcourse ! definitely…please don’t go anywhere stay here..”, I pleaded her just like an anchor says not to tune to another channel while hosting a programme.
I ran in a zig zag manner barely caring the awkward ‘what-happened-to-this-guy’ looks of some students standing at the corridor, to whom my running was much important compared to the slam books, they were carrying in their nasty hands.
Finally, I could see Aakash seated on an old bench in the CBSE section. Though everyone around him were busy running animatedly for slambook autographs, Aakash was rather roaming endlessly in his broken dreams for that day.
He saw me approaching towards him. I got frightened that he might burst out for my ‘act’ few minutes before.
“So are you both committed?”, was his first question.
“Fuck! What are you saying??...stupid jerk!!!..Did I ever talk to her more than two minutes??”
“Then why did she pull you in??”, he enquired. Though he sounded harsh, I could clearly sense the childish attitude In him. Ofcourse, I had known him fro m my kindergarten.
Once, when we were in our first standard, I and our classmate Sneha used to be the monitors of the class. So, as a part of our duty we used to mind the class during the class hours, when any teacher gets absent. We used to talk generally during that time(Donno what we used to talk about, I guess I knew nothing when I was in 1st).
A guy named Ganesh said to Aakash, that I and Sneha were in love. Utterance of the word ‘LOVE’ in that standard was literally a crime kinda thing. If there was a ‘School penal code’ , then the culprit was undoubtedly prosecuted to get HANGED.
After the lunch hour, Leena mam who was a nightmare for us came to the class.
“So, any complaints during the lunch hour, Gandhi??”, she asked me.
I said “no”
Then suddenly Aakash woke up and shouted, “Mam! This boy Ganesh is says , Gandhi love Sneha”, in his extraordinary English.
I don’t even remember what happened afterwards, probably Ganesh was made to kneel down for a week or something.
Whenever Aakash did something Childish, I remembered this incident and guffawed. At that situation, that day, he reminded me of the same Aakash of first standard.
“Keerthi wants to talk to you…now!!”, I said with a smile.
“What????”, he exclaimed.
